Manukai’s main engine crankshaft was removed in preparation for the installation of its new dual fuel engine to allow operation on Liquified Natural Gas (LNG). The re-engineering project is an important investment in Matson’s strategy for reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 40% in the next seven years. Daniel K. Inouye received its first LNG bunkering in September, and Kaimana Hila will go to dry dock in the second quarter of 2024 to undergo its LNG retrofitting.
