While en route to Oakland on July 23, Manulani was called upon by the U.S. Coast Guard to assist the 53-foot sailing vessel, Divine Madness which was stranded approximately 100 nautical miles (NM) off the coast of California, having run low on fuel and unable to sail.

Manulani Master, Tim Kalke, diverted 44 NM to aid the sailboat and its crew.

“At approximately 1:50 PM, we made a lee (protective position) and directed Divine Madness to tie up alongside where we had messenger lines waiting,” said Kalke.

“We then transferred four, five-gallon jugs of fuel to its crew of two men, one woman, and two dogs. The crew was in good spirits and appreciative of our assistance. Aid was completed in under 15 minutes, and we continued our course to Oakland.”
