Matson Logistics Container Technology Delivers
The newest additions to Matson Logistics’ intermodal fleet were delivered to Los Angeles in late January. Manufactured in China, our customers use the 200 MLHU-designated containers to transport goods by rail throughout North America. The 53-foot MLHU fleet provides customers with greater access to capacity, a lower-cost alternative to over-the-road transportation, and sustainability advantages due to higher fuel efficiency and reduced environmental impact. Matson Logistics has one of the youngest intermodal fleets in the industry–the average age is 4.9 years.
Each container is outfitted with an advanced monitoring device, providing GPS location, temperature and humidity, empty/loaded status, door open/closed alarm, and tamper alerts. Keith Crenshaw, vice president of transportation for Matson Logistics, commented, “We continue to prioritize our customers by investing in capacity and technology solutions to serve them better. The 53-footers celebrated its 10th year in 2022. It is a key differentiator of our business, and it is gratifying to see the customer support that has fueled its growth. A special thank you to Paul Johnescu and Kim Tianio-Cruz for their hard work coordinating the purchase, transport, and arrival logistics of this most recent addition to our container fleet.”
