Maunawili Crew Earns Top Safety Award

Congratulations to Maunawili’s crew, winners of the 2021 Matson Annual Safety Award! The honor is presented each year to the commercial ship with the best overall safety climate and comes with $15,000 for the benefit of shipboard personnel. Additionally, the vessel name is added to the Vessel Safety Award trophy, which lists all previous winners and stays on the victorious vessel until the following year’s champion is announced.

Criteria for the Safety Award Program include productive monthly vessel safety meetings, safety training, the infrequency of easily preventable injuries, the ship’s response to the investigation of injuries and near misses, minimizing lost time injuries, safety innovations that can be shared across the fleet, ISM audit results, Flag State (USCG) inspections, STCW compliance, and industry awards.
