Matson Scholarship Ambassador Meets Grateful Recipients

Steven Pagan, technical services manager and Matson’s Leadership Diversity Scholarship ambassador to the Webb Institute in Glen Cove, New York, recently attended the school’s annual alumni event and met with the school’s two Matson recipients Burke Kanemasu and Ashley Farrell.

“Both expressed their gratitude to Matson for the scholarships. I answered some questions, and we enjoyed a discussion about Matson and its role in the U.S. maritime industry.”

Burke, a third-year student from San Diego, Calif., is not just a scholarship recipient but also the vice commodore of the Webb Yacht Club and the class student council representative.

As a third-year student from Chino, Calif., Ashley has spearheaded Webb’s Operation Christmas Child for two years, providing children with toys, school supplies, and hygiene products.
