Position Summary:

The Senior Ops Engineer is a member of the operations team within IT Services. He or she is responsible for playing a role in the problem management, the change management, the security administration, the scheduling management, the disaster recovery management and 24x7 operations support of enterprise and local applications. This individual is able to provide operations support to enterprise-wide applications and has a deep understanding of Matson’s operation procedures, applications architecture, enterprise application integration and multi-party application collaboration. This individual is responsible for maintaining documentation and implementing processes that meet the IT general control normative model to ensure SOX compliance. The incumbent must understand the business practices of his or her customers within all business units and adapt appropriate systems support solutions to business problems or requirements.

 
Specific accountabilities:

  • Provide second level 24x7 support to all business applications, system users and outsource partners in the areas of incident management, problem management, change management, system access, security, help desk, computer operations, scheduling, output processing, disaster recovery and automations. Chairs associated meetings as necessary.

  • Apply business insights to all operation requests and processes. Continually seeks to expand knowledge of Matson’s business and operation processes. Design solutions that make operation processes more efficient so as to satisfy the customer. Experienced enough to look beyond the obvious; takes future and cost requirements into account when evaluating alternative solutions.

  • Possess hands-on experience in relevant technologies. Considered one of Matson’s experienced technical and operations resources and acknowledged expert in relevant technical and operations areas. Contributor in doing technical and operations evaluation of packaged products or new technology. 

  • Work closely with QA teams, development teams and outsource partners to ensure smooth deployment of application components in all environments. Responsible for developing, generating, automating, streamlining and promotion of build/release shells or script using Linux/UNIX, CVS and ANT. This includes customizing builds for new or existing applications, integrating localization strings, automating source code compilations and integrating source code controls. Chairs associated meetings as necessary. 

  • Communicate effectively within a small group setting; present technical and operation ideas and influences outcomes. Listens and articulates by communicating technical and operation concepts to non-technical system users. Proactively provides input to more senior engineers and management with respect to decisions being made.

  • Prepares monthly statistical reports, prepares a weekly status report, audits all outsource charges against the contract and the monthly performance report and participates in IT audit activities as required .

 
Essential skills and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S) from four-years of college or university education or equivalent technical certification is desirable.

  • Five or more years experience supporting enterprise wide production systems. Experience in the transpiration/logistics industry desirable.


The individual should have experience with all computer operations methodologies. The individual must have experience working in one or more of the following environments:



  • Provide 24x7 operations support/administration in a WebLogic/JBoss, iPlanet/Apache Webserver distributed environment is mandatory.

  • Experience administering Linux (Red Hat Enterprise)/Unix is mandatory.

  • Must have experience and be an expert at supporting numerous environments (Development, QA, Pre-Production and Production).

  • Experience working in a VMware and Cloud environment is highly desirable.

  • Experience working with Oracle and/or MySql databases is highly desirable.

  • Experience working in a Mainframe (CICS, Zeke, Changeman) environment is a plus but not mandatory.

  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills is required. Ability to analyze problems, determine root cause and provide solutions in sometimes stressful production environments and situations is required.

  • Strong / Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to gather metrics and provide reports to upper management is required.

  • PC applications using Outlook, MS-Project, VISIO, Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Windows 7, Windows NT and 9X.

  • Have knowledge of and comply with all SOX requirements, SDLC requirements and IT Roadmap development projects.
