Matson signs a contract with Kvaerner Philadelphia Shipyard Inc. for the purchase of two new containerships for $110 million each. The two diesel vessels will be similar to the MV R.J. Pfeiffer, with a capacity for 2,600 containers and will be equipped with bigger container sizes for both refrigerated and dry containers, which will allow Matson to efficiently accommodate the diversified mix of cargo needed to support HawaiiÕs island economy.
