In 1948, with 15 new C-3 vessels in service, Matson's freighter service resumes regular schedules. The postwar services reflect a 30% increase in voyage transit speed over the prewar fleet. Weekly sailings from San Francisco and Los Angeles are 5 days to Hawaii instead of 7 to 10 days. The new Matson ships have the prefix “Hawaiian.”
