In an effort to increase profitability, Matson includes cruises to new ports in the Pacific and elsewhere. Cruises to Alaska, British Columbia, South America, New Zealand and the Caribbean were some of Matson's service offerings from 1968 to 1970. However, with passenger service no longer profitable, Matson ends its luxury cruise operations in 1970.
